Skip Wilson was born on May 24, 1955, in Columbus, GA. He became a legal citizen of heaven, when he received Jesus as a young boy. He left his mortal body here at Piedmont Columbus Regional, Northside, on March 22, 2022. His body remained, and his spirit and soul departed to be with Jesus and with the Father. He is now with the great cloud of witnesses who have gone before us and who surround us; and he along with they are encouraging us to know that the victory is already ours. It was won for us at the cross.
Skip met his bride, his woman, his companion, Mary Lou, while they were both in the Air Force. They married in 1978, and celebrated their 44th year of marriage in January. Skip has always loved Mary Lou just as Christ has always loved the church. He accepted her exactly as she was, yet encouraged her to grow and be her best. Skip was the one to lead his bride to the Lord seven years later. Mary Lou's love for her husband, will never end, because love never ends. She misses him greatly, but she knows that she will see him again. The Good News tells us that the dead in Christ shall be raised first, and then we who are alive and remain will be caught up into the air, and so shall we be with our Lord forever.
Skip had two children—both daughters. He was blessed with his firstborn daughter, April Mae, who was given to him in April of 1983. She and her Daddy shared much love and the same take-charge temperament. She learned a lot from her Father. They loved each other very much—they always will.
Five years and 7 days later he was blessed yet again with another daughter, Paula Mae, who was given to him in April of 1988. Paula remembers her Daddy as a good man. Indeed, Skip is the righteousness of God because he is in Christ Jesus. They, too, loved each other very much and always will.
Skip's Dad and Mom, Charlie & Eunie Mae, both preceded Skip to be with the Father and with Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Skip's name was not the name that they gave to him at birth. The name Skip came later when he was a young boy. His parents were camping and became fascinated watching someone skipping small flat stones across the lake. The skipping stones reminded them of their son. They started calling him Skip, and the name stuck. I met him as Skip. His family, friends, and coworkers; we all called him Skip. His name was Skip!
Skip's sister, Delane, and his two brothers Jimbo and Brad are still here on the earth, saved, awaiting the blessed hope, the catching away of the church. Delane's husband, Robert, has also gone on to be with the Lord. She has 3 children: Michael, Ryan, and Lauren. She also has many grandchildren. Jimbo is married to Brenda. He has 3 children: Daughter Jennifer, who is with the Lord, son Jamie, and daughter April. Brad is married to Susan, and they have two children: Laura Beth and Matthew. Laura Beth is married to Joey, and they have 3 children: Mason, Wyatt, and Willow.
Skip's son-in-law, Steven is married to April. Skip and Steven loved/love each other and had great respect and admiration for each other. Both Skip and Steven are blessed and are blessings. Skip has two grandchildren from this marriage, Blake who along with Lex gave him his first grandchild, Evie; and, of course, his granddaughter Kaitlin, who loved to ride the lawnmower with him and learned how to build fires from him (at 4!). Skip really loved those grandchildren, and they loved him.
Skip also has in-law-family from New Mexico. His mother-in-law is Paula who immediately accepted him into the family with unconditional love. He has two sisters-in-law: Barbara & Eleanor who is married to Chris. Skip also has a brother-in-law, Porfie, whom he loves very much. He loved all of his in-laws.
Skip belonged to several church families in his lifetime. He was raised baptist. He attended Evangel Temple, where he made many friends, and served in Sunday School, worked in Royal Rangers, built churches on Maps trips, and Amened loudly. He was a founding member of Solid Rock Assembly of God, helping to build a good foundation to preach the Good News of Christ, and Him crucified. He also attend Trinity Temple. For the past 7 years, he was under the ministry of Joseph Prince of New Creation Church in Singapore. He grew, and learned a lot. It was his habit to listen to the preaching of the Good News proclaiming the finished work of the cross, getting revelation about all the benefits that belong to us: earned not by what we do or don't do, but bequeathed to us in the divine exchange, He was looking up, waiting for the coming of his Lord, as did the early church. He grew to know the love of the Father, the finished work of the Son, and the power of the Holy Spirit. He loved to listen daily. to praise & worship.
Skip loved to have fun. If you knew him, you loved him. He liked to hunt. He liked to fish. He liked to swim. He liked fires. He liked the outdoors. He enjoyed his movies. He liked to eat. He liked to play. He loved his family; he loved his friends, he loved his pets (including cats!). He would look to see if you were having fun and enjoying yourself. He loved to make people happy. Most of all, he loved his Lord, because the Lord first loved him.
Skip also loved to work. The Lord anointed Skip with the ability to build and to fix and to figure things out. He liked to use his gifts and talents to bless others. He was a blessed man and he is a blessing. He liked to see other people happy and pleased with the fruit of his labor.
In the end, Skip was all about Jesus. He is a child of God. He is a part of the Body of Christ, an individual member. He had the fullness of the Spirit—he prayed in tongues. He felt it a privilege to tithe—it was. He was a partake of the Lord's supper—the holy Communion—eating the body of Jesus, the bread of life, and drinking His blood, the cup of salvation. Because of the finished work of the cross, which is memorialized by Communion, Skip has eternal life, and Jesus will raise Skip up at the last day.
Death no longer has a sting. The grave no longer has the victory. Thanks be to God. He has given us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
