She was born in Columbus, Georgia on July 21, 1933 to the late Martha Duke Patten and James Patten. Sylvia was a true southern lady, Baptist by faith. She was an avid reader of the Bible. She had been living in McDonough, Georgia to be close to her daughter Teri. Sylvia enjoyed shopping, traveling and playing the piano for her grandchildren.
She leaves her loving memory to be cherished by her son, Pat Phelps and his wife Sharon; her daughter, Teri Mathews and her husband Tim; her loving grandchildren: Allison Phelps, Joshua Mathews and his wife Ashley, Heather Thompson and her husband Rory, and Brittney Davey; her loving great grandchildren: Ainslee Bright, Granger Mills, Bennett Thompson, Charlie Thompson, Declan Thompson, Tuck Mathews, and Fisher Mathews.
Family will visit with friends on Monday, April 12, 2021 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, GA from 12 noon until 2:00 PM. A graveside service will follow in Parkhill Cemetery 3:00 PM.
