

Please join the family, Father James K. Yeary and Rabbi Larry Schlesinger as they celebrate the life of Mr. Rawls. The celebration will be held at 6:00 PM, Tuesday, September 6, 2011 in the Bill Heard Theatre at the River Center For The Performing Arts according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus. A private family service will be held prior to the Celebration of Life.
Mr. Rawls was born January 20, 1930 in Greensboro, NC, son of the late Tallis Samuel Rawls, Sr., and Saphronia Scott Rawls. He was a veteran of the Korean Era Conflict, and a Life Insurance Executive with Knight-Rawls, Inc. Mr. Rawls was member of Trinity Episcopal Church, the Rotary Club of Columbus. He was a Will Watt Fellow, Paul Harris Fellow, Will Watt Sustainer, a member of the Paul Harris Society and a 33 degree mason. He received the Order of St. Maurice Medal, the highest civilian medal that can be bestowed by the military. Mr. Rawls was also a supporter of the arts, and many area organizations to include the Boys Scouts of America, the Springer Opera House, and Westville.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Rawls was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Rawls, and a brother, Dr. William Joseph Rawls.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Jacquie Rawls of Columbus, GA; his son, Robin Scott Rawls and his wife, Janet of Savannah, GA; two grandchildren, Erik Rawls and Meagan Rawls, Children of Kevin Rawls and Brooke Russo; many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Sam and Jacquie Rawls Faculty Chair in the Columbus State University Schwob School of Music and mailed to the CSU Foundation, 4225 University Avenue, Columbus, GA 31907.
