Tameaka Lashunda Vanderhorst, born on August 9, 1977, in Albany, Georgia, passed away on November 5, 2025, at the age of 48. A resident of Columbus, Georgia, Tameaka was a devoted wife to her husband, Johnny R. Vanderhorst Jr, and a loving mother to her children, Jaidin J. Vanderhorst and Jaila V. Vanderhorst.
Tameaka is survived by her siblings, Sharon Denise Knighton, Vickie Davis-Johnson (Harmon), Clemon Demetris Marshall (Tara), Clennon Dewayne Marshall. She is preceded in death by her parents Clemon Marshall, Jr., Freddie D. Knighton-Edwards and brother Daryl Knighton.
Tameaka had a passion for reading on her iPad or Kindle, and she enjoyed listening to audiobooks. She was fond of shopping for new clothes, seasonal decor for her home, and new makeup, with a particular love for red lipstick. Tameaka also had a deep love for Georgia football. GO DAWGS! She fiercely loved, protected, and cared for her family and friends.
Known for her deep love and commitment to family, Tameaka emphasized the importance of family ties. Her teachings and encouragement have left an indelible mark on her family, who credit her with their learning in cooking, education, and loving deeply with compassion.
Tameaka will be remembered as the best mom and wife anyone could ask for. To many students, she was a safe space to confide in. She will always be known as someone who went above and beyond for her family, friends, and anyone in need.
A Celebration of Life Service for Tameaka will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Fisher Chapel, located at 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia, 31907, on November 15, 2025, at 11:00 am. Family will visit with friends before and after the service.
