Jack of all trades and master of none is a reference to someone who dabbles in many skills but doesn't gain expertise in one. Tom was a master of many.
In the kitchen, he mastered the art of cooking, a skill he inherited from his parents, Bill and Sally. The Chadwick Sunday evening meals were legendary. It wasn't unusual for 50 family and friends to gather around the table and enjoy everything from international cuisine to superb southern fare.
Tom was a master mechanic, from working on muscle cars, to Cadillacs and boats. If necessary, he could "rebuild" an engine on the side of the road or on the Backwaters.
He was a master at rewiring, repairing, and installing anything from surround sound audio to large screen TVs to building computers. His family and friends can attest to the benefits of his expertise and what it brought to their listening and viewing pleasure.
Tom's ultimate masterpiece was his music. At four years old, his piano teacher discovered he had perfect pitch. His gift shown through as a pianist, performance coach, consultant, session player, studio musician, and arranger.
Under the direction of Professor Paul Vander Gheynst at Columbus State University, Tom excelled in the jazz studies program.
When the student became the teacher, Tom inspired and taught hundreds of students for 24 years as a music educator at Eddy Middle School.
Tom played with the Columbus Symphony, Columbus Jazz Society, Springer Opera House and arranged for and played with the St. Luke Orchestra, the Cavaliers, the Michael Hoskin Band, Jim Evans Band, and Rusty Taylor and Friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, William A. "Bill" Chadwick and sister, Susie Chadwick Caldwell.
Tom is survived by his mother, Sally, and a host of loving friends. No wonder his heart gave out, he gave so much of it to all of his friends and everyone he knew.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Columbus Jazz Society, PO Box 387, Columbus, GA, 31902.
