Tomas was born on January 17, 1952 in Caguas, Puerto Rico to parents Petra Cruz and Tomas Roman. Tomas was the eldest of 5 children.
At age 23, Tomas enlisted in the U.S Army where he earned several badges and medals, including Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Expert Infantryman Badge and NCO Professional Development Ribbon, among many others.
After 20 years serving in the U.S. Army, and achieving a ranking of Staff Sergeant, Tomas retired from the service.
Tomas was preceded in death by his father, Tomas Roman. He is survived by his wife Nahir D. Roman, son, Christian T. Roman, mother, Petra Cruz, siblings and siblings-in-law, Sonia (Luis) Roman, Milagros (David) Roman, Orlando (Wanda) Roman, Jaime (Wanda) Roman, Judith Vazquez-Lopez, Miguel Vazquez, Raul (Daisy) Vazquez, Amaury Vazquez, Yamel Vazquez, (Miguel Rodriguez) mother and father-in-law, Ada Renta and Miguel Vazquez, and many nieces, nephews and family members.
