

SSG (Ret) Tommie E. Tomlin, Sr., age 82, resident of Columbus, died on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital. Graveside services are scheduled at Parkhill Cemetery on Wednesday, September 30, 2015, 11 a.m. with full military honors, according to Striffler-Hamby, Columbus. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 from 6-8 p.m.
SSG Tomlin, son of the late Oscar Tomlin and Gracie Parker Tomlin, was born April 4, 1933 in Dothan, Alabama. He was raised up in Apalachicola, Florida and joined the U.S. Army, where he served his country honorably for over 20 years. During his distinguished career, he served in both the Korea Era Conflict and Vietnam Era Conflict. After retiring from the military, he started a career as a barber where he worked for a few years at Eastway Barber Shop. He then began a career in security and worked at Contract Security where he served as a Captain and also managed numerous accounts, and then worked for Calloway Chemicals where he was in Manager of Maintenance and Security.
SSG Tomlin was preceded in death by two sons, Tommie Tomlin, Jr. and Robert Timothy Tomlin. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley Tomlin of Columbus; four daughters, Barbara Ann Everett of Mauk, Georgia, Susan Carol Farris and her husband Terry of Jacksonville, Florida, Wanda Kay Carden and her husband Steve of Roanoke, Alabama, and Jennifer Green of Mauk, Georgia; one son, David Matthew Tomlin and his partner Tommy Pennington of Columbus; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
