Verna L. Jones

Columbus, Georgia- Verna L. Jones, age 82, resident of Columbus, died on June 2, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, 3 p.m. with Rev. Tim Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, June 4, 2012 from 5-7 p.m.

Mrs. Jones, daughter of the late James Thomas Osborn and Eva Lou Duke Osborn, was born April 20, 1930 in Lee County, AL. She was a registered nurse for over 60 years, and was retired from the Columbus Health Department where she faithfully served for 30 years. Mrs. Jones was a member of Britt David Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Clifford Battles and Ralph Jones; a brother, William "Ed" Osborn; and a sister, Sue Horton.

Mrs. Jones is survived by three daughters, Patricia Godwin and her husband Paul of Seale, AL, Vicki Ingle and her husband Lester of Columbus, and Connie Tucker and her husband Calvin of Phenix City, AL; four brothers, James R. Osborne and his wife Maggie of Salem, AL, Thomas A. Osborn and his wife Marie of Smiths Station, AL, Robert A. Osborn of Phenix City, AL, and Charles D. Osborn and his wife Sarah of Cornersville, TN; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Richards of Phenix City, AL; other relatives and friends.
