Vickey was “blessed” with three sons. Outnumbered four to one, she survived by instilling in them an adventurous spirit and a magnetic spontaneity that drew everyone she met close to her. Vickey would be described by many as 100% authentic: what you saw was what you got. Her active listening skills were unmatched making Vickey’s kitchen both an unofficial confessional and unregistered therapist’s office.
God gave Vickey the uncanny ability to function on one to two hours of sleep. This came in handy for helping with all types of homework assignments that were submitted using the names of her children. Hobby Lobby stock ticked upwards after every homework assignment was assigned.
Vickey had what some termed a “casual relationship with time” which was lovingly passed down to her sons.
Despite this, Vickey always met a deadline, and exceeded expectations on every project she was a part of. She was awarded “Spouse of the Year” by her husband’s place of business and was constantly involved in the local community. It is because of her that her children know what it means to stare a challenge in the face and over perform in every facet of their lives. Her unwavering support was the foundation for all who were fortunate enough to have benefited from it.
In March of 2014, she was ironically diagnosed with a type of cancer reserved for heavy chain-smokers, baffling any and all oncologists that she sought out for treatment. She fought it until July 2015. If there is anything to be gained from losing such a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and beloved friend who has touched so many lives, it is this: Never take the time you spend with loved ones for granted. Be sure to openly express your love for those who improve your life, and never for a moment waste what crucial time you have with them."
Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 10:00 am, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, according to Striffler-Hamby 4071 Macon Road Columbus, GA.
