Virginia Fletcher was born on May 18,1933 in Manchester, Georgia and went to be with her Lord on May 22,2025 at the young age of 92. She was the daughter of Margaret Newman Cornwell and Edmond Collie Cornwell. She was preceded by her parents, siblings Walter Cornwell, Ruth Ragan, Harvey Cornwell and her son Michael Clay Holland. She was Christian by faith and attended St Mark Church. Virginia loved the Lord and instilled the true values of life in her family.
Virginia was the matriarch of her family. She loved holidays where she was known to cook wonderful southern meals. She could be considered a world traveler to some going to many countries throughout Europe to include: England, Italy , Malta, Spain, Germany, Greece, France, and Monaco. She also traveled to numerous states within the United States to include Hawaii and Alaska. She loved going on cruises and traveling to Biloxi and Las Vegas casinos to gamble. Virginia was a natural at crocheting scarves, pocketbooks and throws. She was a true light to her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
She leaves her loving memory to be cherished by her four children: Terry Holland (Lynda), Cristy Hovey (Leonard), Mark Holland (Penny), and Ginny Mayher (John); nine grandchildren; twenty four great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; the Fletcher family, special stepdaughter Tracy and the many friends who loved her dearly.
Virginia’s life will be celebrated in the presence of her family and friends on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 1:00 PM in the Fisher Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus , Georgia 31907 with Pastor Jeremy Alexander officiating. Virginia’s family will visit with friends and family from 11:30AM until 1:00PM in the Mill Room at Striffler-Hamby. She will be laid to rest in Parkhill Cemetery following the service.
