Mrs. Colwell was born January 15, 1929 in Randolph County, Georgia, daughter of the late James Lester and Hettie Wall Ragan. She retired as a hairdresser after many years of dedicated service. Mrs. Colwell was a member of Hilton Terrace Baptist Church and enjoyed the Ruth Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Colwell enjoyed many hobbies including sewing, quilting, crafting, gardening, cooking, she was excellent at making banana pudding and coconut cakes. Her secret to longlife was her sweet tea, which she enjoyed daily. She was a great friend and loved her family dearly. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and considered them her universe.
She is preceded in death by her parents James Lester and Hettie Wall Ragan; her husband Art Colwell; her granddaughter, Tiffany Pearce; her brothers: Lamar Ragan and Edwin Roe “Buddy” Ragan.
Mrs. Colwell is survived by her sister Ella Will Fellows; her two daughters: Regina Singleton and Carol Taylor (Ken), her grandchildren: Julie Lurker (Jeff), Jason Taylor (Amy), and her great-grandchildren: Mary Frances Lurker, Cason Taylor, Dakota Taylor, and Carson Williams, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Mrs. Colwell’s life will be held at 3:00PM, Wednesday, August 13, 2025 in the Fisher Chapel at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, Georgia with Reverend John Burnett officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Parkhill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Cason Taylor, Dakota Taylor, Carson Williams, Jeff Lurker, Greg Ragan, Lamar Fellows, Gene Fellows, Steve Ragan, Wayne Ragan, and Jimmy Johnson.
