Graveside funeral services with Military Honors will be held Monday, February 15, 2021 at 2:00 PM in Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia 31907 according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA.
Cecil was born October 22, 1935 in Bainbridge, GA, to the late Willie Johnson and Alice Jones Johnson.
He was formerly from Columbus and was retired from Household Financial Co. with 30 years of service.
Cecil was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Johnson and Harry Johnson.
No matter the sport, he always participated with gusto, especially in refining his signature golf swing which is legendary. He was bilingual in Southern English and pig Latin which his family has adopted and carries on at family gatherings. He loved the great outdoors and animals and instilled that love in his children and grandchildren who dubbed him Dr. Doolittle. He could not carry a tune and always said when he got to heaven he would be able to sing like the angels. Oh, how sweet the sound.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Sue Johnson of Auburn, Al. four children; Cecilia A. Watts (Duane) of Savannah, GA., Gregory D. Johnson (Wendy) of Ocala, FL, Dawn E. Bradfield (Brad) of Salem, AL. and Robin C. Haines (Bob) of Kansas City, KS. seven grandchildren; Olivia Watts, Samantha Watts, Bailey Johnson, Baxter Bradfield, Roby Bradfield, Harrison B. Haines and Berkley Haines, one great grandson; Thaddeus Haines; one sister, Carolyn Johnson Cloud of Lake City, FL; and one brother, Loren Johnson of Bainbridge, GA.
