Walter D. Kilgore

Walter Dawson Kilgore, 79, of Naples, Florida, passed away August 15, 2011. Mr. Kilgore was born April 19, 1932 in Columbus, Georgia. Walter was the son of the late Guy Willis Kilgore and Gladys Williams Kilgore. He was a graduate of Columbus High School and attended Auburn University. Walter worked for the Gas Light Company of Columbus and was the owner of Kilgore Home Improvement and the St. Francis Car Wash. For the past 30 years, Walter and Cathryn have resided in Naples, FL, where Walter was a member of The Moorings Presbyterian Church, the Exchange Club, the Kiwanis Club, Naples Yacht Club, the Antique Car Club and the Naples Cruising Club.

Walter is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Cathryn Williams Kilgore, his four children, Gerry Pearson Kilgore and wife Connie (Kennesaw), Ethel Kilgore Griffin (Phenix City, AL), Walter "Bubba" Dawson Kilgore, Jr. (Naples) and Roy Gibson Kilgore (Boaz, AL) He is predeceased by his sister, Louise Kilgore Walker, and his two brothers, J. Donald Kilgore, and Guy Kilgore, and is survived by his sisters, Mary Jean Kilgore Carlson and husband Ken (Winston-Salem, NC) and Gladys "Tootsie" Kilgore Hollaway and husband Norris (Ft. Myers, FL). Walter is also survived by six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Striffler-Hamby Funeral Home, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of the Pines Mausoleum at Parkhill Cemetery on Saturday, August 20, 2011, at 10:00 a.m., with Dr. James C. Elder, Jr. officiating.
