Wilbur Joseph "Joe" Smith Jr.

Wilbur Joseph "Joe" Smith, Jr., age 46, resident of Columbus, died on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at Columbus Hospice House. Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus on Saturday, November 19, 2011, 1 p.m. with Chaplain Thomas Waynick officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, November 18, 2011 from 5-7 p.m.

Mr. Smith, son of Wilbur Joseph Smith, Sr and Lois Rae Thomson, was born October 9, 1965 in Leesville, LA. He was 2nd Vice President for the Center of Excellence, AFLAC, where he has served faithfully for the past 11 years. Mr. Smith was a graduate of Old Dominion University where he received a Bachelors degree and later graduated from the University of Richmond receiving his Masters degree.

He is survived by his wife Wendi Kay Smith of Columbus; daughter, Kaitlin Lee Smith of Columbus; son, Alexander "Alec" C. Smith of Columbus; parents, Wilbur Joseph Smith, Sr and Lois Rae Smith of Greenville, SC; two sisters, Shelley Renee Smith Spendley of Huntsville, AL and Dr. Jennifer Pearl Martin and her husband Michael of Greenville, SC; four nephews, Aiden Martin, Reid Martin of Greenville, SC and John Spendley and Kevin Spendley of Huntsville, AL; other relatives and friends.
