Bill it has been two years since God took you home, it seems like a eternity.  I love you so much and I know you are in a better place but I miss you so much. One day we will be together again, until then. Love Mother.


It has been 18 months since God took you  home and it still hurts so bad. I will never get over this but I know you are not suffering any more, I love and miss you so much my heart aches.



Some days, it feels like Bill just left us and some days it feels like it's been forever since I saw him. I miss my friend dearly and sometimes when I close my eyes, I can hear his huge, highly contagious laughter and I can't help but smile. I know that we will meet again and I'll hear his laughter again. Much love and many prayers for Jackie, Miss Ann and the rest of his family. 

Bill it is unreal you have been gone a year. I still miss you so much, but I know you are in a better place and Daddy is with you. I loved you so much and I don’t think I will ever get over you, but one day we will be together again. Love you so much, Mother.

I am saddened by the news of passing of my childhood friend. Bill was always fun to be around, and certainly kept all of us active playing sports and having fun. He certainly wasn’t one for just sitting around. I am proud to have been a friend to Bill, and will always hold him in high regard. 

Mr. & Mrs. Hamby, I'm am so sorry to hear that Bill is no longer with us.  Daddy was always asking about him. He will be missed by so many.  Wanda Hall an Coach James Shirah

Bill was the love of my life.  He suffered so in the last 6 months but is happy and talking/running somewhere in heaven.  He loved his friends and family with a fierce love.  I will miss him dearly but am glad he is at peace and no longer suffering...Bye babe - fly high!!

I shared so many great memories with Bone, and or Bill Hamby. We road up & down the highways, playing softball, through out the 80's and 90s,  and competed against each other yearly, in the men's open league division 1. We won, states, regional, nationals, world series, flag city shoot outs, and many more, various softball games and tournaments. We also hung out, doing other crazy things. He spoke his mind, & was feared by many. But, was a true teddy 🧸on the inside. He was a darn good, poker, & domino's player as well. He's cancer free now, and is in heaven,  with Commander, Spoon, Fields, Miller, Cake Man, Fields, Broadwater,  Richie, Blind, Bubba "D", Sydney, And countless others, playing on The Jesus Christ Legendary  Columbus/Phenix City, Heaven lyrics Softball team, right now, Cancer free! By, the way one great ball team that is in Heaven.  He loved his Brother,  Parents, Significant other,, all of his family and Friends.  He loved life, but most,  of all he loved Jesus Christ and God the father. So we know, we will meet again, this is not the end but, the beginning. For it is written to be absent of the body, is to be present with the lord. Unfortunately I live 600 miles away and I will not make it, to the service.  Continued prayers 🙏❤ for all. Bone brother, we laughed, we played, and we partied hard 🤣😂 back in them days. Big E loves you and will never forget you brother!! Until we meet again in heaven,  how about, not arguing to much with Ole Tim Mills, a.k.a Cake Man up heaven, lol. I can hear u 2 going at it, and Commander, laughing 😅🤣at you both, as he eggs it on!! I remember bill from school. (Jordan high )He always loved to make people laugh. Such a great man. Now he's no longer suffering... My thoughts and prayers are with the family and his friends. RIP Bill.

Bill was larger than life, the funniest, absolutely the loudest, and never wanted anyone to know it, but, the sweetest. I know  he’s found Greg Commander, “Spoon” and my brother, Gene Peoples , by now, and they are getting the greatest softball team up,  heaven has ever seen.  I know he’s yelling in the heaven dugout right now. RIP Bill Hamby, you were loved and will be missed by many!

Bill was always there for my kids if they needed him. He was full of life and very loyal to his friends.  He played ball with Gary and Richie and took the game seriously. He was the life of a party.
Cancer is a terrible disease that he fought hard.

I became close with Bill when he was diagnosed. We shared our cancer stories and all the unpleasant things that went with it. He told me he put his faith in God now. He had a heart for younger people who had cancer and had not lived much of a life. He loved his family and Jackie. I'll always remember how he handled this tragedy. He is in a much better place than we are. 

I’ve known Bill all of my life, he was the alpha of our neighborhood group of boys. We always went to Bill for help when there was trouble! Bill was always the first to be picked for any team! Bill was a tremendous athlete and a 3 sport starter at Jordan High.. I traveled up and down many roads with him playing softball. We all looked up to him, he was a big brother to us all.. I will see you again my friend, my brother! Love ya buddy!! 

I remember Bill used to come to my house as he and my brothers John and Jeff South were friends. I havnt seen him since high school but i followed his battle wirh cancer. It makes me so sad he lost his battle. He is no longer sick. Rip Bill you will be missed by many.

I had the privilege to call Bill my friend, yet I thought of him as a brother. Always larger than life. Always a true friend. Always there if I needed him. I was so blessed to be able to spend time with him and his loved ones as his time here became short. He fought for his life more courageously than anyone I've ever seen. I miss him already but I'm grateful to know that we will be reunited in the presence of Our Lord and Savior. I pray for comfort and peace for all who loved him. May God bless Jackie and his family as they go through this dark time in their lives.
