

William W. “Pete” Jones, age 97, resident of Columbus, died on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Columbus Hospice House. Cryptside services are scheduled at the Chapel of Pines Mausoleum, Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus on Thursday, March 8, 2012, 1 p.m. with Pastor Keith Trumbo officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 from 5-7 p.m. Mr. Jones, son of the late L.G. Jones and Nancy Melissa Jordan Jones, was born August 18, 1914 in Ashford, AL. He was a member of Columbus First Seventh Day Adventist Church. Mr. Jones served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during WWII and was awarded the American Service Medal and WWII Victory Medal for his exemplary service. He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 70 years, Pauline “Polly” Jones of Columbus; one daughter, Gloria Jones Henninger of Columbus; two grandchildren, Richard A. Bushman and his wife Robin of Sharpsburg, GA and Nancee R. Bushman of Columbus; one great-grandson, Jay McKnight of Sharpsburg, GA; sister-in-law, Sarah Pope and her husband Earle of Smiths, AL; neice, Margie Hemple and her husband Ed of Alameda, CA; nephew, Lucky Michael Jones of Stamford, TX; other relatives and friends.
