
SFC (Ret) Willie Lee Johnson, 86, of Phenix City, Alabama, died on Friday, November 27, 2015 at East Alabama Medical Center. Funeral services with military honors will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015 in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia. Rev. Walter Underwood will officiate with interment to follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Sgt Johnson was born June 3, 1929 in Soso, MS the son of the late Marvin Johnson and the late Mittie Deason Johnson. He had lived in Columbus and Phenix City area for the past 50 years.
Sgt Johnson retired from the U.S. Army on 30 April 1969 after 21 years of service. He received a Bronze Star w/"v," Army Commendation Medal, Purple Heart, and Combat Infantryman's Badge. He also retired from Crete Carrier as a truck driver after 20 ploys years and attended Golden Acres Assembly of God Church.
Sgt Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Herzog Johnson; five sisters, Perlie Johnson, Irene Fant, Lillie Scott, Velly Rayner, and Bessie Sims; five brothers, Gene Johnson, Oreer Johnson, Otis Johnson, Haskell Johnson, and Arnold Johnson.
Survivors include his son, Clarence L. Johnson and his wife Julie; two sisters, Mellie Salley and her husband, Preston and Bernice Rayner; many nieces; nephews; and friends.
