Woodrow Winters, Sr. 84 of Phenix City, Alabama passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at his home. Celebration of Life Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 2, 2026 at 2:00pm in the Fisher Chapel at Striffler-Hamby in Columbus, Georgia. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm prior to the service. Private burial will follow in Parkhill Cemetery.
Mr. Winters was born June 1, 1941 in Taylor County, Georgia; son of the late John and Mozell Hinton Winters. He was retired from Columbus Foundry after many years and was a member of Cornerstone Church of God in Columbus, GA. He will be remembered by his family as a man of strong faith and loved God. He loved to wear silly hats and loved to tell his family about his childhood memories. He was a jokester who never met a stranger. His favorite past time was watching his grandchildren play sports and watching hummingbirds.
Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter Debra Edwards, brothers, Leroy Winters, Jimmy Winters, sisters, Betty Sue Posey and Virginia Wainwright.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary Cobb Winters, son, Woodrow Winters, Jr. (Lacie), daughter , Cindy Swilling (Eric); grandchildren, Ethan Winters, Lydia Winters, Ransom Hickman, Lori Beasley (Starlin), Hunter Swilling (Victoria), Carson Swilling (Margo), Shawn Edwards, Robert Edwards; great grandchildren, Aubrey Bowers, Beckett Swilling, Kaylee Beasley, Brendan Edwards and his sister, Daphine Greathouse, brother, Hermon Winters along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
