Elvi was born April 25, 1960 in Germany, the daughter of Ingrid and Herman Schiefner. She served in the United States Army from 1978-1984, receiving several commendations during her service including the Department of Army Good Conduct Medal. She married Michael Gorbett on March 4, 1985.
Elvi held many occupations within her home including a homemaker, homeschool teacher for her children, and a bookkeeper and office manager for the family owned construction company.
On many occasions, she could be found snuggled up to a book, hiking, walking, horseback riding, gardening, crafting, listening to classical music, playing computer games, and visiting the library.
Elvi was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She had a unique passion for making special gifts for others, a fondness for all animals, and unwavering love and dedication for her family.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Gorbett; and their children, David (Ashley) Schiefner, Melissa (Craig) Kirk, and Hannah (Marcus) Artis, all of Columbus; her parents, Ingrid Cook and Herman Schienfer of Florida; brothers, Liam Christopher Thomas, Martin Schiefner, and Hartmut Zielske of Florida; Mother-in-law, Joyce Gorbett of Columbus; several nieces and nephews; and her dogs, Grizzy, Teddy; and granddog, Zip.
She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Leon Gorbett; nephew, Christopher Lucas; and her beloved dog, Duchess.
A funeral service for Elvi will be held Sunday, October 31 at 10:30 a.m. at Myers-Reed Chapel. Family and friends may call from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, October 30 at the funeral home. Additional calling will be held one hour prior to the service on Sunday, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Elvi will be laid to rest at Becks Grove Cemetery.
