Born April 12, 1945, in Cleveland, Ohio, Gary grew up with a deep appreciation for learning and service. He graduated from St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati and attended the University of Cincinnati before proudly serving in the U.S. Air Force, where he attained the rank of Sergeant.
Gary was a longtime member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, giving his time generously in a variety of roles. His professional life reflected the same steady dedication—he spent 25 years as a radiological technologist at Drake Memorial Hospital in Cincinnati and Columbus Regional Hospital, later serving as a network administrator at Columbus Regional Hospital for 21 years.
Curious and engaged throughout his life, Gary enjoyed reading, wine tasting, sports, and anything involving computers. He also loved the energy of horse and dog racing. His greatest joy, though, came from traveling the country with his family and being present for his grandchildren’s events and every family gathering he could attend.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leslie G. Folkman; mother, Eileen Folkman Green; stepfather, Derwood Green; sister-in-law, Carol “Muffy” Folkman; and niece, Eileen Green.
Gary is survived by his devoted wife, Susan M. Folkman; daughter, Lisa (Shane) Teague; son, Leslie Folkman; brothers, Guy (Peggy) Folkman and Kevin (Jerri) Green; grandchildren, Eli (Hannah Redmon) Teague, Luke (Maddy) Teague, and Olivia Teague; great-grandson, Jack Teague; and dear travel companions, Ed Spahr and Colleen and Dana North.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Rev. Clement T. Davis as celebrant. Burial with honors provided by the Bartholomew County Honor Guard will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Myers-Reed Chapel, with additional visitation one hour prior to Mass at the church.
Gary will be remembered for his warmth, curiosity, and unwavering love for his family. His presence leaves a lasting mark on all who knew him.
