Helen Grace Kuhlman McNeill

Mrs. McNeill graduated from Hammond High School in 1951. She was manager of Stanray Credit Union while living in northern Indiana and was employed at Cosco Credit Union 15 years, retiring in 1996.

She was a former member of First Church of Christ in Highland, IN, and currently was a member of Westport Christian Church. She directed vacation Bible school and Christmas pageants and chaired numerous events and in the 1980s was a member of the bell choir at First Christian Church in Columbus.

A Girl Scout leader and Sunday school teacher, she had many talents and interests, including gardening, card club, travel, bowling, needlework and Farmville.

Most important, Helen was a loving wife and a devoted mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with the Rev. Mike Bartlett officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

In keeping with Helen’s wishes, cremation is planned.

Born in Hammond March 3, 1934, Mrs. McNeill was the daughter of Elmer and Helen Havling Kuhlman. She married James D. “Jim” McNeill Dec. 12, 1953, at First Christian Church in East Chicago.

Survivors include her husband; daughters, Lynn Kane of Beavercreek, OH, Doria (Paul) Leggat of Ancaster, Ontario, Canada, and Janice Runyon of Greensburg; a son, Joseph McNeill of Bloomington; grandchildren, Holly (Rob) Cronin of Littleton, CO, Joshua (significant other Mary Gordon) Porter of Kettering, OH, Jason, Madison and Brooke Leggat, all of Ancaster, Gus Runyon of North Vernon and Corina Runyon of Greensburg; and one great-granddaughter, Abigail Cronin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Robert G. Kane, in 2010; and a sister, Dorothy Hutcheson, in August 2005.
