John C. Rich

John was born in Campbell, Ohio Sept. 4, 1929 the son of Frank M. and Julia C. Gianjacamo Rich. He married Joanne Smith August 11, 1951 in Johnson City, TN; she survives.

He was an Independent Insurance Agent and operated John Rich Insurance Agency for 20 years. He was an Army veteran serving in Korea.

He was an Industrial Engineer for US Steel 1955-1960 and worked for Cosco 1966-1977. He attended U.S. Technological Institute and graduated from Southern Baptist Seminary. He was an ordained Baptist minister, an active member of Memorial Baptist Church where he taught an adult Sunday School Class. He was chairperson for the Senior Mixed Bowling League and Men’s League. He was an avid sports fan, especially loving baseball and the NY Yankees.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne of Columbus; son, Tim (Kim) Rich of Waynesville, NC; daughter, Patricia (Tim) Magoon of Columbus; 4 grandchildren; 6 great grandsons; 1 great granddaughter; brothers, Joseph Rich of Riverside, CA and Frank Rich of Hemet, CA; sisters, Palma Rich, Phyllis Rich and Rosemary Rich of Sun City, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Louise Rich.

Funeral service 3:00 p.m. Sunday Myers~Reed Chapel on 25th Street with Pastor Scott Murphy officiating. Visitation from 2:00 p.m. to service time Sunday. Military rites will be conducted by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard at the funeral home prior to the service. Mr. Rich will be cremated and private inurnment will be at a later date in Jonesborough, TN.
