Katharine Lockard

She was born November 6, 1927, in Beattyville, Kentucky, to Chester R. and Georgia L. (Haddix) Watkins. On November 24, 1945, she married the love of her life, Gilbert Lockard, and together they built a life filled with family, faith, and love.

A longtime member of Elizabethtown Christian Church, Katharine was active in the church ladies’ groups in her younger years. She found joy in gardening, playing cards, and shopping trips with her daughter, Linda. Simple pleasures that brought her the most happiness. Katharine was also a passionate bowler. She, Bonnie and Cheryl played together on different leagues throughout the years.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her daughter, Linda White; her grandson, Donnie Lockard; and eight siblings.

Katharine’s legacy lives on through her children, Donald (Marie Giberson) Lockard of Gainesville, FL, Bonnie Franke, Rick Lockard, and Cheryl Lewis, all of Columbus; her grandchildren, Jeff, Kathy, Jamie, Amy, Freyn, Zach, Josh, Alex, Rachel, Travis, and Bailey; great-grandchildren, Dalton, Brandon, Lane, and Emily; and great-great-grandchildren, Norah and Siah. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4–8 p.m. Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Myers-Reed Chapel. Additional visitation will be from 12–1 p.m. Friday, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Doran Chambers officiating. Burial will follow at Springer Cemetery.
