He was born in Bloomington on April 11, 1928, the son of Maurice M. Randall and Miriam Hazel Klaiber Randall.
He is survived by his niece Maureen Balogh and his nephew, Matthew McNally, both of Sugar Land, Texas; his sister-in-law Estolle Gross of Columbus; and five great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Thralls Randall on March 4, 2013; his sister, Joyce Randall McNally; and his parents.
He was a graduate of Bloomington High School and a 1951 graduate of Indiana University with a BS degree followed by an MS degree in 1952. At I.U., he was a member of Alpha Phi Omega, the Square and Compass Club, and Phi Delta Kappa.
He was an Eagle Scout and a former Scout Master.
He was a past president of the Golden K Kiwanis Club, a past president of the Columbus Hi-12 Masonic Club, and a past vice president of the Bartholomew County Retired Teacher Association. He was also a former member of the National Education Association and the Indiana State Teacher Association.
For several years he was a vice president of the Bartholomew County Historical Society. He was also a member of the Decatur County and Shelby County historical societies.
He had been a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1957.
Mr. Randall was a lifetime member of the Columbus Elks Club, life member of the American Legion, and a 50-year-plus member of the St. Johns Masonic Lodge No. 20.
He and his wife were members of the Indiana University Alumni Association.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean era, serving in Europe.
He had been a board member of the Camp Atterbury Veterans’ Memorial Association since 1992 and was a member of the 31st Infantry “Dixie” Division Veterans’ Association.
Mr. Randall retired in 1986 as a social studies teacher at Columbus East High School. He had been social studies chairman at Columbus Senior High School and had taught at Martinsville Jr.-Sr. High School after his discharge from the United States Army.
A funeral service will be held at Four Seasons Chapel on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Howard Boles officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 20, 2018, at Myers-Reed Chapel. A Masonic service will be held during the visitation at 6:30 p.m.
Full military rites will be presented by the Shelby County Veterans’ Honor Guard.
Memorials for Mr. Randall may be made to Four Seasons Employee Christmas Fund or to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
