Mildred Louise (Crane) Moore

Mildred Louise Crane Moore was born at home in Unionville, Monroe County, Indiana, on May 24, 1921, to Thomas Franklin Crane and Mary Florence Gilliland. She is the sole survivor of her generation, preceded in death by both parents and siblings, Millard Crane, Martha Ruggles, Helen Crane, Georgiana Kerchner, Dorothy Teague Smoot, Grace Balser, Mary Weber, John Leon Crane, and Robert Crane.

She lived her early life in Monroe and Brown Counties as well as Edinburgh and Martinsville. Louise was a 1939 graduate of Nashville High School in Brown County, Indiana.

She married Merril Leon Moore on November 22, 1950, in New Unionville, Monroe County, Indiana. They owned and operated Gnaw Bone Grocery until 1959. Louise worked for Children Inc., the Columbus Motel and as a private duty children’s caregiver. For over 30 years, she spent winters in Fort Myers, Florida, fishing, playing euchre, and socializing.

She is survived by her husband, Merril; children, Thomas Lee Moore (Connie) of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Jerry Moore (Kathy) of Columbus, Indiana, and Judith Ellen Hill (Troy) of Westport, Indiana; as well as their grandchildren, Quixada “Kiki” Moore-Vissing of Dover, New Hampshire, Christopher Moore-Vissing of Chester, New Hampshire, Matthew Moore of Columbus, Indiana, Tyler Hill of Westport, Indiana, and Justin Hill of Westport, Indiana. Also surviving are 12 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a niece, Merrianne Koechley.

The funeral will be Friday, Aug. 10, 10:00 a.m. at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with Rev. Tom Rust officiating. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
