

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with Pastor Brian Barriger officiating and military rites conducted by the Bartholomew County Color Guard. Calling will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday with a Masonic Memorial service at 7:30 p.m. and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday. In keeping with Robert’s wishes, cremation is planned with a private inurnment in Garland Brook Cemetery at a later date.

Survivors include two sons, Rick and Randy Weinantz, both of Edinburgh; a daughter, Connie (Jim) Jessee of Hope; grandchildren, Kevin (Tara) Jessee of Edinburgh, Melinda (Pastor Brian) Barriger of Hope and Ben Weinantz of Boulder, Col.; sisters, Carolyn (Omer) Weintraut of Waldron and Judy Droddy of Edinburgh and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; a nephew, Ben Droddy, and a great niece, Tammy Johnson.
Born May 23, 1923, in Shelby County, Mr. Weinantz was the son of Russell and Mary Ensley Weinantz. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1942 and attended Indiana University and Butler University, where he played on the Butler basketball team.
Robert farmed the Ensley Weinantz family farm.
He had driven a school bus for Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. and had served as the President for the Indiana School Bus Drivers Association. He was also a County Commissioner and later owned and operated Weinantz’s Food & Spirits.
He was a 50-year member of the Edinburgh Masonic Lodge; Elks Lodge; and was a Bartholomew County Shrine Club member. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
