Roger Harold Burton

Born in Columbus on 9-16-49, Roger was the son of Virgil and Nellie Cook Burton. He married Dana Scifres on 9-23-78 and she survives.

Roger graduated from Columbus North High School in 1968 and had worked for Cummins Engine Company as a machine operator for thirty years until retirement in 2002. He was a member of East Columbus Christian Church, the local Diesel Workers Union and Greenbelt Golf Course. He enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in their sports activities, hiking and bicycle riding.

Surviving Roger are his wife, Dana Scifres Burton, Columbus; children, Dale (Tammy) Burton, Jennings County, Brian (Katrina) Burton, Palestine, IL and Jessica (Sam) Niese, Columbus; siblings, Louie (Sharyn) Burton, Kathy Bryant, Charlotte (Ron) Weber, Daniel Burton, Robbie “Sally” (Dave) Barriger and Janie (Ray) Butler, all of Columbus; thirteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, siblings, Steve and Allen Ray Burton, Lois Denny and Linda Woodcock.

Roger’s funeral will be Monday at 10:00 a. m. at Hathaway-Myers Chapel on Pearl St. with Ron Bridgewater officiating. Burial will follow in Garland Brook Cemetery. Calling will be from 2-6:00 p. m. today and one hour prior to the service Monday. Memorials for Roger may be directed to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
