

Theodore W. "Ted" Ogle, 60 of Columbus, IN. , a faithful servant to the Lord, loving husband and father, caring friend to many, business leader , dedicated community activist and a true American patriot, passed away at 9:20 PM, Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Ted was born July 19, 1952 in Columbus, IN. the son of the late Morton Oscar and Mary E. Phelps Ogle. He was a lifelong resident of Bartholomew County.
He married Anne C. Czernobil September 20, 1980 in Chicago, IL. and she survives.
Ted attended Azalea Grammar School, Central Middle School and was a 1971 graduate of Columbus High School. He studied Application Engineering at Ivy Tech College and Mechanical Engineering at IUPUI Columbus.
Ted worked on farms and managed the aquatic facilities at CERALand in his youth. He worked at Cummins Engine Company from 1971-1987 where he was a technician in Stress Analysis/Applied Mechanics with advancements through Engineering, Production Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering. Ted was a successful small business owner starting the family owned property management business in 1987. He was the President, CEO and Principal Real Estate Broker for TENA, Inc. and was the Managing Member of TENA, LLC.
His strong sense of community led him to serve in many ways. He was the Republican State Committee 6th District Chairman and Chairman of the Finance Committee, Bartholomew County Republican Party Chairman and Precinct Committeeman. Ted was elected to the Columbus City Council representing the 4th District from 1984-2000 where he also served as the liaison member to City Utilities, the Planning Commission, Aviation Commission, Animal Control Commission, Solid Waste Commission, and the Insurance Committee. Ted was honored to be elected as the first President Pro-Temp of the Columbus City Council by his fellow council members. He served in that position over various years for a total of 8 years. He was a candidate for State Representative in 1990.
Ted was appointed to the Indiana State Board on Fire & Building Safety by Governor Mitch Daniels and served as Vice President of the commission. He also served on the Eastern Regional Sewer District Board from 1989 until it merged into the city of Columbus where he was the Board President for 10 years overseeing the merger into the city of Columbus. Professionally, he was elected to the Indiana Manufactured Housing Association/Recreational Vehicle Indiana Council (IMHA/RVIC) State Board of Governors for a total of 8 years where he served as the PAC Committee Chairman for 2 years. He was an affiliate member of the Columbus Board of Realtors. Ted was an Indiana licensed Real Estate Principal Broker, Water and Waste Water Operator, Manufactured Housing Installer and Manufactured Housing Retail Dealer. He was a member of the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce, the Indiana Chamber of Commerce and the Indiana Rural Water and Waste Water Association.
Ted lent his energy and skills to officiating, coaching and supporting youth football, hockey, soccer, basketball and swimming for numerous park and recreation leagues, school teams and club associations. He was a 1986 graduate of Leadership Bartholomew County. He was a past board member of Big Brothers/Big Sisters and past member of Columbus Evening Kiwanis Club. For many years Ted had shared his lunchtime in fellowship every Monday with the Columbus Rotary Club where he served as President from 2009 – 2010 and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a member of the Central Indiana Porsche Club of America where he participated in the Road Racing Driver Education Class.
Ted was an avid house boater on Dale Hollow Lake. He was a certified scuba diver, hiker, biker, water and downhill skier, auto racing enthusiast and he especially enjoyed singing and playing his guitar.
A celebration of life memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 09, 2013 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Columbus, IN. with Pastor Mark R. Teike officiating.
Calling hours will be from 4:00-8:00 PM Friday, February 08, 2013 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Columbus, IN. and from 12:00 noon until the time of the service on Saturday.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Myers-Reed Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to The Love Chapel, Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or to the Rotary International Foundation.

Along with his wife of 32 years, Ted is also survived by a daughter, Nadia Ogle of Columbus, IN.; a son, Eric Ogle of Columbus, IN.; a brother, Stephen W. (Dee) Ogle of Columbus, IN. ; a niece, Carrie (Charles) Schiele of Powell, OH, ; and nephews, Chris (Teri) Ogle and Andy (Kelli) Ogle both of Columbus, IN. and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Mr. Ogle was also preceded in death by a brother, Rodger L. Ogle.
