Aida Montano, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. She was born on November 30, 1940 in the Philippines to Thomas and Jesusa Saddam. After graduating from the University of the Philippines, Aida earned a law degree from the University of Michigan Law School. She balanced her passion for work with her dedication to motherhood, and continued to do so with her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She raised her three children while pursuing a career as a research attorney for the Ohio Legislative Service Commission, from which she recently retired after forty-nine years of service. She also dedicated herself to social justice causes and blended her faith with her principled belief in fighting inequity through the humanitarian organizations that she supported. She loved nature and hiking, enjoyed traveling and experiencing different places and cultures, and made friends wherever she went. In addition to family friendships and the friendships of her neighbors, her Filipina law school peers, her co-workers, and friends in the Filipino-American and social justice communities, she was especially dedicated to preserving the memory of her daughter, Leigh Ann. Aida cherished the friendships that Leigh Ann’s friends and classmates helped to keep alive in the decades since Leigh Ann’s passing. They became like daughters to her and can share in her joy now that she is reunited with her child.
In addition to her parents, Aida was preceded in death by her sisters Alma and Linda, and her daughter, Leigh Ann. Aida will be greatly missed by her sons, Tommy (Julie) Jordan and Michael (Suzanne) Jordan, her grandchildren Connor, Allison, Leighanne, Brandon, Alden, and Greyson, and her extended family and many friends.
A private memorial service will be held on April 5, 2025 at Resurrection Cemetery in Lewis Center, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Columbus School for Girls Scholarship Fund.
