Alberta J. Hanes

Alberta J. Hanes, age 80 of Columbus, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2010. Alberta was born and raised in Columbus, daughter of the late Earl and Eva Hayes. Also preceded in death by her husband, Don Hanes, daughter, Rita Ann Jones, siblings, Jack Davis, Peggy Swank, Eileen Eing, Juanita Hanes, and dear friend, George Thorpe. Following her graduation from East High School, Alberta met and married her late husband Don in 1948, and they began their family together. Family was always something that remained important to Alberta, and she always managed to make every holiday special. She enjoyed planning trips, especially to Florida, gardening, taking rides, and visiting The Ohio State Fair. She was a previous member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, and also worked and retired from Western Electric. Alberta possessed an ornery sense of humor that all who knew her appreciated. She will be missed by her children, Gary (Patricia) Hanes, Eva (Okey) Hanes Smith, Donna McLaughlin, Bill (Debbie) Hanes, and Trent Hanes; grandchildren, Pat, Ali, Matt, Brandon, Jenny, Jon, and Kristin; numerous great grandchildren; and many other extended family members and dear friends. Funeral services will be held 10 am Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Chapel, 5600 E. Broad St. Family will receive friends from 5-8 P.M.
