Alda Spry

Alda Spry, 90, of Verdunville, was born May 12, 1924, at Harts, daughter of the late John and Rosa Smith Fillinger. Alda peacefully entered her heavenly home December 20, 2014, at Mt. Carmel Hospital in Columbus, OH, following a brief illness with her family by her side.

She was also preceded in death by, her husband of 60 years, Zack Spry, sisters: Alma Fillinger, Gearie Fillinger, Marvie Mullins, Artie Amburgey, and Verdella Belle Putman , brothers: Harlan, Shade, Blaine and Felix Fillinger, and a special granddaughter, Angela Renee (Spence) Arnett.

Alda loved spending time outdoors, especially in her vegetable garden. She enjoyed canning, cooking, reading, working word search puzzles, and spending time with her family. Alda was a homemaker for most of her life, and a retired cook of Verdunville Grade School. Alda was of the Christian faith.

Alda is survived by sisters: Virginia Workman (Elmer) of Holden, WV, Berta Stoner (Dick) of Peoria, AZ, children: Phyllis Jewell Spence (Joseph), Brenda Gail Peck (Gary), Delbert Spry (Phyllis), Delmer Spry (Louisa), Wilma Convissor (Leonard) and Darla Curtis (Bruce). Additional survivors' include: 17 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren.

Viewing will be Saturday, December 27, 5 - 8 pm at Evans Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday, December 28, at the Evans Funeral Home in Chapmanville, WV. Burial will follow at the Fillinger-Workman Cemetery at Bulwark Fork of Harts.

Pallbearers will be family members and friends.
