

Alfred Thomas Dean, Jr., age 78, died peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, May 13, 2016 at St. Ann’s Hospital. He was born on October 10, 1937 in Columbus, Ohio and is preceded in death by his father and mother, Alfred Thomas Dean, Sr., and Mildred “Betty” (Schmidt) Dean; sister Nancy (Dean) Baker; brothers-in-law, Homer Baker and John Florkowski; and niece Teri (Baker) Bearden. He is survived by his beloved children: Maria (Mike) Pozz; Barbara (Rick) Georges; Bill (Vicky) Dean; grandchildren: Julie, Michael, and Steven Pozz, Ashley and Abby Georges, Christopher and Alex Dean; siblings: John (Diane) Dean, David Dean, Mary (Jim) Davis, Patty Florkowski, Pete (Lucia) Dean; many nieces and nephews; and his former wife, Jody Dean.
In 1955, he graduated from Holy Rosary High School. At the age of 18, he joined the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Cushing. He honorably served our country for 17 years. He worked the majority of his career at Jeffrey Manufacturing Company and retired after 20 years of dedicated service. For the last 14 years he was under the care of the wonderful staff at Friendship Village of Columbus where he served as President of the Resident Council and made so many friends who he loved very much.
He was a devoted Catholic, an avid OSU buckeye fan, and a former member of St. James the Less Catholic Church. He had a great sense of humor, a wonderful spirit, and the ability to make everyone feel loved. He truly touched the lives of so many coming in contact with him.
Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 N. High Street in Worthington. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 6077 Sharon Woods Blvd. in Columbus. Father Charles Cotton, Celebrant. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent dePaul Society.
