Alfred Whitt

Alfred Whitt, Jr. went Home to his Heavenly Father on 1/25/21 (passing of natural causes). He was born in Morgan County, KY on 11/12/1934 to Alfred, Sr. and Annabelle Whitt. He was one of six children and he became a father of six children. He was preceded in death by his parents, four siblings (Walter, Glen, Roger, Jo Ann). Douglas Keith Whitt (eldest son) and Joseph Alan Whitt (his grandson). He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Mary Lou Sprouse Whitt. Also survived by his five remaining children, Lois Whitt Burgoon, Bruce Alan Whitt (Doris), Crystal Lea Whitt, Barry Vance Whitt (Cheryl) and Bradley Dean Whitt (Sandy). He has 15 grandchildren - Dustin, Danielle, Ryan, Keri, Nathan, Alison, Joshua, Jennica, Kailah, Hilary, Kelsey, Jared, Ethan, Taylor and Austin. He has 16 great-grandchildren. Brother, Robert Whitt. Many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. Alfred loved his Lord, his wife, his kids, grandkids, his friends and relatives. He championed underdogs. He found a way to speak and build value into each person. He taught us a strong work ethic and how to rise to any challenge. "WHITTS DON'T QUIT!!" was his favorite quote when times were tough! He loved family and church. As he praised our Lord, he stood on his tiptoes to sing the high notes well. He also knelt on his knees to discover a God who loved him and helped with every need. He knew how to discipline and cherish all of his children and grandchildren. He loved so well. He knew the pain of closing caskets for others including his eldest son Douglas Keith Whitt and his grandson Joseph Alan Whitt. His hope was in the resurrection as he would want ours to be. Alfred Whitt, Jr. was a true Character. He could shoot a fly off the ceiling with a rubber band. He could drive a tractor, a truck. a sports car and a motorcycle. He plowed a field with a motorcycle and Mary Lou helped! How many can say that? He wrestled anyone that challenged him. He could crack a joke and "let that be a lesson to you" in the same sentence. He pulled a boat across Buckeye Lake with his teeth. He swam across the Ohio River and back. He tried to lasso a rabbit. He loved watching Bruce (the Bruiser) play football. You were a real Buckeye fan and could play piano by ear, banjo, mandolin and harmonica. Barry and Bradley have many funny stories to share about their unique experiences with their Dad. He taught the extended family how to celebrate properly by adding" BOING" to the happy birthday song. He visited Crystal after work every day for months in Dodd Hall after her terrible car accident. Alfred tore a phonebook in half with his bare hands to scare off Lois' and Crystal's boyfriends. He built his first house at age 19 and his log cabin after he retired from the US Postal Service. He loved each person authentically. He was and IS the Real Deal. His words of love and encouragement flowed with no hesitation. He was proud of his family. These are a few of things that make it easier, and yet harder, to say goodbye. We love him and miss him. Alfred led his family to the mountain tops. In his advanced years, he knelt beside his bed every night and at least once prayed all night. When he sang or testified for the Lord, you was blessed and would cry easily and openly. What precious memories. "Well done thou good and faithful servant," says the Lord! You have created a huge void and yet our hearts are full with our love to you. You always said that you were the "richest man in the world," because of God and your family. We are rich, too. "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things that God hath prepared for them that love him" (1 Corinthians 2:9). Well, Sweet Man, you made it HOME to the mansion that has been prepared for you by your Heavenly Father and can eternally sing and shout the Victory. We are keeping and growing our faith to be sure to meet with you, again. Love, your Blessed Family. Family will receive friends on Friday, February 5, 2021 from 10:00AM-11:00AM with funeral service to follow at 11:00AM at The Reynoldsburg Church of the Nazarene, 1340 Crest Road, Reynoldsburg, Ohio 43068.
