

Dr. Rowe attended Cornell and Ohio State Universities from 1950 to 1956. He graduated cum laude, while also receiving a MS in engineering from the later institution. Upon graduation, he worked for Texaco and Exxon in their research laboratories. In 1964, he received his PhD in engineering from the University of Texas in Austin. Allen then taught statistical and- classical thermodynamics at Oklahoma State University until .1976. Besides numerous consulting projects, he received NASA ASEE fellowships in 1967 and 1968, where he worked on satellite technology. In 1974, he was a guest lecturer at Stanford University.
In 1976, Allen accepted a position at ARCO to work on enhanced oil recovery from various reservoirs, including Prudhoe Bay. In 1984, he received ARCO's Outstanding Technical Achievement Award.
In 1981, Allen served on the committee that selected papers to be published in the Society of Petroleum Engineers reprint series #15 on Phase Behavior.
He has served on several committees concerned with grants in the area of thermodynamics. He has published more than 11 reviewed papers, as well as several internal reports and manuals associated with his work.
In 1987, Allen became a consultant, working in various areas, including thermodynamics in geothermal energy development.
In addition to his parents, Allen was preceded in death by his sister, Marguerite Engholm and cousin, Sue Haering. He is survived by his nieces, Rebecca Harding, Katherine Bussard, Joanne Roemer and Sally Williams; and cousins, Peggy Lanier, Marilyn Brown, Joseph R. Rowe, Nancy Wickline, Dianne Moore, Harold Rowe Jr., Sally Runck and Debbie Jaeger.
Private service will be held for the family at Fairmont Cemetery, Jackson, Ohio.
