

Alvin Andrew Lawrence, age 94, of Upper Arlington. Passed away peacefully on December 7, 2017. Born September 28, 1923 in Branford, CT. Son of the late Andrew and Evelyn Lawrence of Branford, CT. Graduate of Branford H.S. (CT) and the Indiana Institute of Technology. Member of Alpha Gamma Upsilon Fraternity. Lieutenant in the United States Navy in World War II. Serving as a Flight Navigator with a Utility Squadron based at NAS Honolulu and as a Communications Officer aboard the escort carrier U.S.S. Cape Gloucester, CVE-109. He completed 15 years in the Naval Reserve. Member of Neoacacia Lodge #595, F. and A.M., Columbus Commandery No. 69 and the Aladdin Temple Shrine. Past member of Columbus Model Railroad Club (joined 1952) and Past President and Director Emeritus of the New Haven Railroad Historical Association. Former member of Leatherlips Yacht Club. Worked for 24 years in the Engineering Department at North American Rockwell and 18 years as a Research Scientist with Battelle Columbus Laboratories. Member of First Community Church. In addition to his parents, Alvin was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years Della, daughter Victoria Lawrence, and his sister Bernice Driessens. He is survived by his children, Margaret "Molly" Slenker (Ralph), Andrew "Andy" (Patty) Lawrence, Etta (Steve) Klein; and his smart and beautiful granddaughters Allison, Katie, Avery, and Jordan.
