Anita S. Bettis

Anita was born on November 17, 1942, in Bellefontaine, Ohio, to the late John and Donna (Underwood) Spencer II.

Anita was a graduate of Huntsville High School class of 1960 and later earned a degree in Education from The Ohio State University. Anita taught for 44 years, 42 of those with the Columbus Public Schools, primarily as a kindergarten teacher.

Russell and Anita met at Indian Lake and eventually married on June 29, 1968, at Huntsville United Presbyterian Church. Anita was a loyal and loving wife.

Anita was a kind person and loved animals, most especially her dogs, Hiko and Sanibel, her potbellied pig, Sweet Pea, and her donkey, Eeore.

For many years, she and Russell enjoyed spending time in the “country” at their property in the Hocking Hills and later, after retirement, in Florida. She loved the beach and boating.

Anita will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 54 years, Russell H. Bettis; sister, Sandra Bradbury; brother, John Robert “Bob” (Connie) Spencer III; and nieces and nephews: Gayle Ann Dye, Tobi (Darin) Collins, John (Nicole) Spencer IV, Sondra (Pat) Chen, William MD (Molly) Dunn IV, Sally (Robert) Bradbury, Elizabeth (Robert) Hancock, Robert (Amy) Dunn, Chris Voss, Craig (Lori) Voss, Jennifer (Gordon) Nasser, Brenda Oakes, Will Voss and many grandnieces and nephews.

Anita was preceded in death by her parents, her grandnephew, Scott Bradbury, and dear friends Tootie and Jeff Jeffries.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 17, 2022, at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, Ohio 43221.
