

Ann Rathkamp Barnhart, age 85, passed away Friday, July 7, 2017 at Dublin Methodist Hospital in Dublin, Ohio. She was born on October 18, 1931 in Cincinnati, to the late Carl Rathkamp and Janet (Shivler) Cross and predeceased by her brother, H. Bert Rathkamp, in 2005. Ann graduated from Terrace Park High School and attended Miami University in Oxford where she met Richard Barnhart of Chillicothe, Ohio, and began a 20-year marriage. While raising their two children, she worked as a bookkeeper for Yankee Dollar Gift Store in Terrace Park, and later spent 20 years as business manager of Halpin-Noll Eye Institute in Cincinnati before retiring in 1997. Ann was never at a loss for projects. She loved sewing quilts, creating costumes and crocheting baby blankets for family and charities alike. She also made time to volunteer, whether it was as a Cub Scout den mother, reading tutor, Vacation Bible School teacher or landscape committee chair of her condo board. She was an active church member throughout her life in Mariemont, Terrace Park, Milford and Dublin, Ohio. In her spare time, she loved gardening, animals and relaxing by the water. At the age of 73, Ann was one of the oldest leukemia patients to receive a bone marrow transplant at The James Cancer Hospital in Columbus. This successful treatment in 2005 enabled her to spend many additional years enjoying her family and serving her community. She later volunteered at The James and was featured in their magazine. Ann is survived by her son, Rick (Annette Franke) Barnhart, of Cincinnati; her daughter, Jodi Barnhart Medsker, of Dublin; her granddaughters, Erin Barnhart (Tony) Autullo, of Cincinnati, Lindsey Barnhart (Greg) Gampfer, of Florence, Ky., and Jordan Aubrey Medsker, of Dublin; and her great grandchildren, Aiden, Adalyn and Aston Autullo. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on July 22 at New Hope Church, Powell, Ohio. There will be a Celebration of Life at 12 p.m. on July 29 at Terrace Park Country Club, Terrace Park, Ohio. Private inurnment will be held for the family at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati.
