

Anna S. Ardizzone, age 87, died April 1, 2012, at Highbanks Care Center, Worthington, Ohio, after a long illness. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she lived in Hudson County and Toms River before moving to Original Leisure Village in Lakewood in 1984. She was employed at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for 21 years and retired from her position as an Actuarial Correspondent in February 1985. After her retirement, she volunteered and was active in many groups in Leisure Village. For a few years, she was chairman of the Health Center volunteers and rewrote the manual of training for new volunteer receptionists. She also chaired the Regime Representatives for two years and served as secretary for the Village news for about one year, and was also the Calendar Editor for the paper. She was a member of the Ladies Health Club and wrote the news article for that club. She also was a volunteer for a few years at Kimball Medical Center and then accepted a position as a Patient Representative for the Hospital, serving in the Emergency Room evenings and some weekends. After five years of retirement, she returned to the work force part time as a receptionist for Weight Watchers, and also worked part time as an evening secretary in Georgian Court College. In October 2000 at age 75, she retired for the second time. Then, she and her husband, Carl, continued to keep busy making beautiful Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls and fairy dolls for family, friends, and as donations to several fund raising groups. She was an avid cookbook and recipe collector and enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends. Anna moved to Columbus, Ohio, in April of 2009 to live with her daughter, Joan Barton. She was preceded in death by her loving daughter, Theresa Dinkel, in November 1988; by her beloved husband, Carl, in January 2006; her son-in-law, Walter Engelhardt in August 2008; and by son-in-law, James L. Barton in January 2012. Surviving are a daughter, Joan (Engelhardt) Barton of Columbus, Ohio; son Thomas (Shirley) Ardizzone of Holiday, Fla.; brother Sal (Agnes) Grillo of Toms River, NJ; and sisters-in-law, Sylvia Ruggio of Lakewood, NJ, and Lena Bowers of Upton, MA. Her grandchildren who will miss her are Theresa Winter of Greenville, SC, Catherine (Steven) Adams of Savannah, GA, Tara (Gil) Escalante of Durham, NC, Jaime (Dan) Ocasio of Forked River, and Eric and Brian Ardizzone of Holiday, FL. She also leaves behind five beautiful great grandchildren, Alexis Winter, Amanda and Brayden Escalante, and Jarred and Shaylee Ocasio; many loving nieces and nephews; and many very dear friends made throughout the years who enriched her life. Family and friends are invited to call at St. Elizabeth Church, 6077 Sharon Woods Blvd., Columbus, Ohio, at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4.
