Anne Shirley Godici Rapp of Columbus, Ohio joined her family in heaven on October 4, 2017. She was born the oldest of six children, to Celia (Castaldo) and Frank Godici in Oswego, New York on November 19, 1938. She graduated from Oswego High School and SUNY Oswego. In 1960, after college graduation, she moved to California and taught in the Norwalk La Mirada school district where she was named Outstanding New Teacher of the Year. She married Wayne Rapp of Bisbee, Arizona in 1961 and they had four children. The family moved to Columbus in 1970. While raising her children, she worked as a substitute teacher and volunteered at Children's Hospital and her church. She also worked as an editor for McMillan McGraw Hill, ATandT, Paul Werth and Rockwell International. She was employed by the Secretary of State's office and worked on Bob Taft's gubernatorial campaign and, for a time, was the operations manager for the Spirituality Network. She and her husband wrote the twenty-year history of that organization, Drawn to the Living Water. In 1999, she and three friends started a Respite Program for low-income single mothers, where women with difficult lives could be pampered, refreshed, and renewed.
Anne is survived by her husband, Wayne and her children: Theresa (Kevin) Briggs, Jeff (Melissa) Rapp, Lisa Hayes, David Rapp, and Jeff Smith (Cynthia Ashbrook). Also, her nine grandchildren: Michelle, Natalie and Monica Briggs; Madeleine, Brian and Olivia Rapp; Eric Hayes; Samantha and Charlie Rapp. Her siblings in Oswego, New York include Fran (Betty) Godici, Diane (Jim) Huckabee, Christine (Bob) Holmes and Lorraine Greene and their 14 children. One brother, Ron Godici, lives in Virginia. In-laws in Arizona include Will Rapp (Kathy Kolbe), Bob Rapp, Joyce (Tom) Leslie and their families.
Anne was extremely proud of her Italian heritage, and family was very important to her. She was always interested and involved in what her children and grandchildren were doing and was proud of their accomplishments and attended as many of their activities as possible. Anne was known and appreciated for her card ministry. Her family and friends marveled at her faithfulness in sending cards for all their special events: birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, get-well, condolences, or just "Hi, I was thinking of you today." One of the things that was most frustrating for Anne as her autoimmune disease progressed is that she didn't have the stamina to stand very long at the greeting card rack and make her selections. She was forced to quit before she found the just right card for all those on her lengthy list. That sort of love and dedication will be missed by all of us.
Friends may meet and offer condolences to Anne's family on Monday, October 9 between 3 and 6 P.M. at Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 E. Johnstown Road, Gahanna, followed by a prayer service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Spirituality Network, 444 E. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215 and the Women's Respite Program, C/O Karen Self, 6730 Lakeview Circle Canal Winchester, 43110. That check should be made out to Women Affirming Women.
