

Arthur W Handshy, 74, of Columbus, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 27, 2016. Known to many as Art, he was a beloved husband, father, Papa and friend. Art was respected for his leadership in local business as well as charitable activities in Arts and Education.
Art attended the University of Missouri at Rolla, now known as Missouri S&T where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. There he got a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (class of 66’) where he played football and rugby. Art played semi-pro football in St. Louis and rugby for the St. Louis Bombers rugby club, while achieving his MBA from St. Louis University.
In 1976, Art moved his family to Worthington, for a job with Lazarus Department Stores where he worked his way up from Facilities Engineer to President. In 1988, Art purchased VICART Precision Fabrication. Never retiring, Art continued to run his company daily for 28 years. Art was an engineer, visionary and inventor with multiple patents.
The oldest of five children, born to Dorothea and Orville Handshy in St. Louis, he is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Victoria (Strebler) and daughters, Cynthia Handshy (Anthony) Mitchell and Mimi Handshy (Michael) Chizever; Grandfather of four, Sarah and Sean Mitchell, Mia and Max Chizever.
Art enjoyed weekends at Lake Erie with his family. He had a passion for automobiles and offshore racing. Art was happiest surrounded by his family and friends. He was known for his generosity and compassion to see people better themselves. Art will be missed by many.
