

Dr. Balakrishnan Subramanian was born on June 24, 1928 in Gunter, Andhra, India to N. Balakrishnan and Sri. Kamala. He lived for 93 years and died on February 1, 2022 at Mt. Carmel East hospital, in the presence of his loved ones, a few weeks after sustaining a traumatic brain injury. He is preceded in death by his beautiful and beloved wife of 60 years, Parvathi K. Subramanian.
Subramanian emigrated to the United States in 1964 to pursue a Ph.D. in Mathematics at Lehigh University. After completing his degree, he accepted a professorship at Youngstown State University where he taught both Mathematics and Computer Science until he retired in June 1993. Subramanian was an active member of the Youngstown India Association, the Youngstown S.L.N. Hindu Temple and the S.V.Hindu Temple in Pittsburgh.
He was an avid bridge, chess, and badminton player who loved taking his family on vacations to beaches, national parks, and museums. Subramanian was known for his intellect, generosity, humble nature, and jovial disposition. His reputation for having a brilliant mind and excellent health remained intact until he died. He is survived in death by his brother, Ganapathy, his sister Lakshmi, and his three children: Arvind (Meena) Subramanian, Mohan Subramanian, Sheila (Terry) Jones, and his seven grandchildren. The Hindu funeral service will be held on Monday, February 7, from 11:45 AM to 1:30 PM at Schoedinger East, 5360 E. Livingston Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43232.
