Barbara (Wilson) Turner, daughter of Woodrow and Martha Wilson, was born on December 3rd, 1938 and passed away in her home on Friday, October 23rd, 2009. She lived virtually her entire life in Columbus, and graduated from The Ohio State University. She was an elementary school teacher, and specialized in helping children with dyslexia. After her children were grown, she returned to school, studied accounting and passed the CPA exam on her first attempt--a typical result of the focus and energy she brought to everything she did. She was active in her college sorority, Pi Beta Phi and as an alumna acted as treasurer of the house board for 8 years. She was an active member of First Community Church, where she served as a deacon as well as a member of the FCC Foundation Board. She also was a member of Guild # 7 and Couple’s Circle # 44 of the church and an active member of Childhood League Assisting Board VIII. At different times in her life, she enjoyed sailing, skiing, working with horses, golf and most especially gardening. In the last 5 years, bridge became a particular passion for her. She worked hard at staying mentally and physically fit, faithfully attending the same aerobics for more than 14 years, whenever she was in Columbus. She was amazingly refined and yet was not pretentious. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Richard H. Turner; sons Stephen (Sherril) Turner, Jeffrey Turner and Thomas (Heather) Turner; grandchildren Kevin, Kyle, William, Annah and Avery. She is also survived by sisters, Janet (Tom) Dutton, Connie (Tom) Mullen and Linda Clark as well as brothers Larry (Betty) Wilson and Richard (Joann) Wilson; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8pm Monday at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road. A Memorial Service will be held 10 am Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Blvd., where family will receive friends immediately following the service in Brownlee Hall. Rev. Deborah Lindsay officiating. Those who wish may contribute to the Childhood League, 670 S. 18th Street, Columbus, OH 43205 or to First Community Foundation, 1320 Cambridge Blvd., Columbus, OH 43212, in her memory. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.schoedinger.com.
