

Bette Jo Grandy Howard, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt and friend died on Saturday, November 30 surrounded by her loving family after a long illness. Born in Columbus, Ohio in 1931 to the late Joseph and Florence (Jones) Grandy, she was sustained by her tremendous faith in Christ and His promise of eternal life, and by the love of her family and friends. Mom retired in 2006 after twenty-four years at Wexner Heritage Village as a senior geriatric aid, where she endeared herself to staff, residents and their families, and won numerous chai awards for the outstanding care she rendered to residents. Everybody who met her fell in love with her. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her four siblings and their spouses. She leaves in sorrow, but also with tremendous love, respect and thanksgiving for her life, six children: Marsha (Robert) Havener, Marva Howard Harris, Marilyn Howard, Tony Howard, Maria (David) Mathis, Scott (Denise) Howard; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; cousins Cecil Grandy and Grace Grandy Henry; special nieces and nephews, Lawrence (Rita) Stewart Jr., Melvin (Pat) Stewart, Rita Stewart Lynum, James Roy Brown, and Constance Howard (Pat) Gamble; several grand- and great-grand nieces and nephews, a host of other relatives and friends, and very special friends Rabbi Cary Kozberg and Michael J. Young. Mom’s homegoing service will be held at Rehoboth Temple Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, 1111 East Long Street, Columbus Ohio on Friday, December 6 at 11 a.m. Bishop Bradford Berry officiating. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Road, 614-457-5481.
