Betty C. Ransom

She was born on November 28, 1927, in Akron, Ohio to the late George W. and Orga Knapp Chapman. She graduated from Manchester High School in 1946 and majored in elementary education at Ohio University. While attending OU, she met her husband Andy who had just returned to college after serving in WWII. They were married in 1948. In 1961, they moved their family to Athens so Andy could attend graduate school. They established several successful businesses. Betty was well known in the community for gardening advice and beautiful, creative container gardens. Along with flower gardening, she loved reading, traveling, animals, and children.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Andy W. Ransom; her daughter and son-in-law, Susan Ransom and Frank Leon Guerrero; sister, Rev. Beulah Chapman Davis; and brother, George L. Chapman.

Betty is survived by sons: Andy W. (Sheri) Ransom Jr. of CO, George H. (Beth) Ransom of AZ, David L. (Laurel) Ransom of Athens; daughters: Sandra Ransom Stoklosa of Athens, Sherlyn Ransom of Lancaster, OH and Rena Ransom of Athens; grandchildren: Andy (Ricki) Murphy of CO, Brian (Liz) Murphy of Athens, SPC Erin (Eric) Murphy Dillard US Army Aberdeen, MD, Meri Stoklosa (Andy) Mackey of NJ, John Stoklosa of Athens, Joshua (Jessica) Ransom of AZ, Jennifer Ransom (Aaron) Roberts of Peebles, OH, Rachel Ransom (Wes) Breitenbach of AZ, Alyson Ransom (Sean) Shank of Athens, Aaron (Natalie) Ransom of OK, SPC Benjamin Ransom US Army, Afganistan, Emma Ransom (Anthony) Adams of Athens, and Jayden, Josiah, Gaige, and Lily Ransom of Athens; great-grandchildren: Andrew "AJ" and Morgan Murphy, Ryan Murphy, Thomas Mackey, Cole and Ella Ransom, Caden, Ashlyn, Joel, and Seth Roberts, Raegan, Ethan, and Brody Breitenbach, Piper and Margret Shank, and Charlotte Ransom.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. She will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Akron, Ohio. She will be sorely missed.
