

Betty Louise (Wallick) Sauer, 91, of Upper Arlington, passed away at home on March 1, 2022. She was born on November 26, 1930, in Hackensack, NJ, to the late Cyrus Mizer Wallick and Dorothy (Keplinger) Wallick. She lived in Maywood, NJ, where her father was pastor of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer until she was 13. The family moved to Dayton, Ohio, in 1943 when her father was called to begin The Lutheran Church of Our Savior. Betty graduated from Oakwood High School in 1948 and Wittenberg University in 1952 where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. At Wittenberg, she met the love of her life, Kenneth Sauer, and they were married in 1953. She began her elementary teaching career in Springfield, Ohio. Betty and Ken moved to Akron, Ohio, in 1955 when Kenneth was called to begin Faith Lutheran Church. They lived in Akron for 18 years. Ken's election to Ohio Synod Bishop in 1973 brought the family to Upper Arlington. Betty served as a partner to Ken by being a gracious hostess. She loved cooking and entertaining friends, family and colleagues. She continued her love of teaching by substituting in both Akron and Upper Arlington. She served as secretary at Riverside Methodist Church from 1978-1985. She delivered Meals-On-Wheels for 25 years, and in 2010, she received The John Nilssen Spirit Award from LifeCare Alliance. She enjoyed scrapbooking and made a "Grandmother Remembers" book for each grandchild. She was a 47-year member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where she served on Church Council, Altar Guild and Hospitality Committee. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenneth, and her brother, Charles. She is survived by her three daughters, Beth (Douglas) Myser, Christine Buehner, Jennifer (Todd) Cooperider; her six grandchildren, Allison (Mark) Abell, Amy (Joel) Hippert, Douglas (Leslie) Myser, Daniel Cooperider, Jeffrey Cooperider (fiancée Courtney) and Lauren Cooperider; her six great-grandchildren, Jack, Benjamin, and Austin Abell, and Jacob, Jordan and John Hippert. Memorials may be given to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or LifeCare Alliance, 670 Harmon Avenue, Columbus, OH 43223. Calling hours will be Monday, March 7, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2001 Northwest Blvd., 43212, with service to follow at 12:00 noon.
