

Cara Lucas Kopke, “Bear”, 35, of Gahanna, passed away at her home, on December 13, 2013 after a two year courageous battle with cancer. She fought her battle with dignity and grace and truly was an inspiration to those that she came in contact with.
Cara was born in Barberton, Ohio on May 10th, 1978 to Earl and Diane Lucas. Cara was a graduate of Wadsworth High School as well as The Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute. After graduating from OSU/ATI, she moved to Columbus where she was employed as a floral designer. She was currently residing in Gahanna with her husband, Ryan and son, Jack.
Cara and her family loved to vacation in Holden Beach, North Carolina. She loved the ocean, outdoors, gardening and spending time with friends and family.
Cara was preceded in death by grandparents, Jack Hudson, Earl H. Lucas, Jean Sobleskie, Uncle Jim Hudson and niece Emma Jane.
She is survived by husband Ryan, son Jack, parents Earl and Diane Lucas, sisters Beth Lucas, Anna Lucas, April (Dan) Poch, brother Jon Lucas, grandmother Eleanor Hudson, Father-in-law Jeff Kopke, mother in law, Denise Kopke, Brother and sister-in-law Troy and Stefanie Kopke and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces , nephews, friends and neighbors.
It was Cara’s wish that her body be donated to the Ohio State University Department of Anatomy for research, in hopes that a cure for cancer may someday be found.
A memorial service will be held on January 3rd, at LIFE Vineyard Church in Gahanna, Ohio, from 2-5PM. Pastor Simon Forsythe officiating.
