Carol Duvall Gilbert

Born on March 23, 1937, in Highland County, Ohio, Carol was the daughter of Charles G. and Ruth Duvall and grew up with her sisters Martha Ann and Mary Jo. She spent thirty years in Saginaw, Michigan, where she built a loving home and deep friendships that remained important to her throughout her life.

In Saginaw, Carol met the love of her life, Emerson D. Gilbert, with whom she shared a devoted marriage of forty years. Together, they made their home in Columbus, Ohio, where they spent the last four decades, creating a warm, welcoming place for family and friends to gather.

Carol is survived by her daughters, Debbie Vincent Byrnes (Bob) and Cheri Vincent Riemer (Randy), who were the constant joy and focus of her life. She is also lovingly survived by her three stepdaughters, Brenda Gilbert Burton (Roger), Karen Gilbert, and Kathy Gilbert, each of whom held a special place in her heart and shared in the life and family she treasured.

One of Carol’s greatest blessings was her grandchildren, whom she adored and faithfully supported: Lindsey Byrnes, Tyler Byrnes, CJ Riemer, Cody Gilbert, Allie, Trevor, and Nicholas Burton. She was predeceased by her beloved grandson, Kyle, whom she held dearly in her heart.

Carol was known for her beautiful smile, which could light up a room and put others instantly at ease. She would do anything for anyone, consistently putting others before herself with quiet generosity and genuine kindness.

Carol possessed a strong Christian faith and a deep love for her Lord Jesus, which guided her decisions, comforted her in difficult times, and shaped the way she cared for others. Her family takes hope in knowing she is now in the presence of her Savior, reunited with loved ones who have gone before her.

Those who knew Carol will remember her gentle humor, her listening ear, and her steady, gracious presence.

Carol was supported by so many wonderful friends and neighbors, whose love and care surrounded her and her family, especially in her later years.

She will be greatly missed by her family and all who were blessed by her life, but her love, example, and faith live on in the generations that follow her.
