

A Celebration of Life Service for Carol J. Holland, 74 of Newark, will be held on Monday, May 10, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Bible Way Missionary Baptist Church, 917 Jones Ave., Newark, with Reverend H. L. Holland, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Holland was born in Jamestown, Ohio on July 25, 1935 to the late Blaine and Carrie (Lucas) Newsom. She went to be with the Lord on May 6, 2010 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center, while surrounded by family.
She was a member of Bible Way Missionary Baptist Church, where she proudly served as church organist. She was a member and past president of the Columbus and Vicinity Ministers Wives and Widows Association; Ohio Association of Ministers Wives and Widows Incorporated, where she served as dean of education; and the NAACP. She was a woman of integrity and had a strong belief in God as her Savior. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband, Reverend H. L. Holland, Jr. of Newark, whom she married on August 19, 1950; one son, Duane Steven Holland of Theodore, Alabama; four grandchildren, Akey, Kenan, Danielle and Jonathan; one brother, Morris (Betty Ann) Newsom of Xenia; three sisters, Evelyn Cox of Xenia, Betty Jane Crump of Bellefontaine and Mary K Harmon of Springfield; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by three sons, Homer L. Holland III, Mark A. Holland and Gary A. Holland; and numerous brothers and sisters.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Holland to Hospice of Central Ohio. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Family and friends may call at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home on Sunday from 6:00-8:00 PM and on Monday at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM.
