Catherine Charlotte (Gerhold Zanon) Gerber went to be with the Lord on March 21, 2021. Catherine was the beloved widow of Roman J. Gerber, who passed away on July 11, 2020. Catherine is survived by her children Cheryl Zanon, Ray (Ann) Zanon, Cathy (Michael) Paessun, daughter-in-law Vicky Zanon and stepsons Thomas Gerber and Daniel Gerber. She is also survived by her brothers Ed (Donna) Gerhold and Carl (Beth) Gerhold. Catherine has too many grandchildren and great grandchildren to count, with more on the way. She was predeceased by her son Kent Zanon and stepdaughter Anne Marie Gerber.
Catherine graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1952 and received a B. Ed. from Capital University and an M. Ed. from Xavier University. She taught with the Columbus Public Schools from 1963 to 1982. After marrying Roman Gerber in 1981, she became active in volunteer work as a member of Melody Unit of WACSO and the Symphony League. Catherine served as an elder at Brookwood Presbyterian Church and as a deacon at Worthington Presbyterian Church and was a member of Geneva Fellowship. Her hobbies included reading, playing bridge, working crossword puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren. Her family imagines Catherine is in heaven with a dozen peach roses on the coffee table, a glass of Chardonnay in her hand while watching "Jeopardy!", perhaps sitting next to Alex Trebek!
A memorial service to commemorate the lives of Catherine and Roman will be held at Worthington Presbyterian Church, 773 High Street, Worthington on Saturday, October 16 at 10:30am. There will be a short prayer service at Union Cemetery immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to LifeCare Alliance, the Columbus Symphony and Worthington Presbyterian Church. Schoedinger Worthington is handling all arrangements.
