

Charles R. “Charlie” Gaskill entered into Life Triumphant for the long anticipated meeting with his Lord face to face. He passed into Glory on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 after a long battle with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. He was diagnosed in 2006 and died from complications of the disease. He fought this as long as he could with the support of family, friends and the James Hospital medical team.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Harriette Gaskill.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Susan M. Gaskill; children: Dr. Bethany (Alex) Kranitzky of New York, NY, Bradley G. and special girlfriend, Ariel DePaul, of Baltimore, MD, and Benjamin C. (Julia) of Columbus. He is also survived by one grandchild, Ellie.
Charlie graduated from Cambridge (Ohio) High School in 1969. He graduated cum laude from Capital University in 1973, where he was a member of the basketball. He was named an Academic All American in 1973. He graduated from Capital University Law School in 1976 and was admitted to the Ohio bar in 1976.
His legal career spanned approximately 40 years serving the Ohio Public Utilities Commission and the Ohio Public Defender Office before joining the Motorists Insurance Group in 1979. He spent over 37 years with Motorists retiring as the General Counsel, Senior Vice President, and Corporate Secretary in 2016. While at Motorists he was involved in insurance industry activities. He received his Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation in 1990. He represented Motorists at the Ohio Insurance Institute and the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies. He also represented Motorists Life Insurance Company at the Association of Ohio Life Insurance Companies.
Charlie was an active member of Upper Arlington Lutheran Church, where he taught Sunday School, served on church council, served on the National Mission Committee, and participated in many small groups. He particularly loved the fellowship of his SALT group. He loved track and field and cross country and served as a high school track official for many years. After retirement, he volunteered at the Franklin County Board of Elections, Worthington Public Library, and Worthington Schools. He enjoyed reading, spending time with friends, traveling, and being physically active. Most of all, he loved being a husband and a father and being with Susie and the children. He will be dearly missed.
Celebration of life will be at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church, 2300 Lytham Road, on Tuesday, October 29 at 7pm with visitation to immediately follow.
